- Mission Daybreak grand challenge third-place winner
NeuroFlow
NeuroFlow is providing virtual and in-person support for Veterans. The technology platform offers Veterans tailored resources and digital care 24/7. The platform is also measuring Veterans’ evolving behavioral health needs to inform care teams of potential crises before they happen. Suicide risk factors include issues outside of mental health and require meaningful upstream interventions, and expanding access to health and community services will advance suicide prevention meaningfully.
Supporting providers to best serve Veterans
Founded by a West Point graduate and U.S. Army Veteran, NeuroFlow assesses and triages Veterans and caregivers to get them to the right level of behavioral health care and community services based on their available benefits, geography, and clinical presentation. The platform, available via mobile application as well as mobile and desktop web browsers, integrates Veteran user-entered data with electronic health records (EHRs), providing clinicians with remote-monitoring capabilities.
NeuroFlow supports providers with a natural language processing (NLP) model, an artificial intelligence tool that can assist in identifying risk markers. As part of the team’s work for Mission Daybreak, the algorithm includes features to prescreen for post-traumatic stress disorder and captures key suicide risk factors, evidence of substance use, and current behavioral health care. When the NLP model detects a risk for suicide ideation and/or suicide attempt, the tool triggers push notifications to care providers and directs the Veteran to local resources.
What comes next: Partnering to deploy to Veterans
Through a series of partnerships with federal agencies and private organizations, NeuroFlow has successfully implemented their solution within the U.S. Department of Defense and the commercial market. Now, NeuroFlow is working with VA to optimize integration into VA systems.
